Jean Vanier Told by His Friends

The communicator

"One day, a person close to Jean Vanier wanted to play a trick on him by calling and pretending to be the president of an extreme right-wing organization. Jean listened attentively. The caller asked him to give a talk to the members of the association. All the while, Jean gave no indication that he was objecting or hesitating – much to the amazement of the caller. Therefore, becoming even bolder and more absurd, the caller asked Jean to give his talk on “Silence.” And Jean, without batting an eyelid, agreed.

Jean Vanier, the person with a message, the communicator, has always wanted to use all occasions – whatever they might be and whatever the public – to pass on his message and be the voice of those without a voice."
